At first I
thought this (above left) was a speaker -- truncated pyramid, maybe theres a driver
firing downward -- but no, its a compact tube/MOSFET hybrid power amplifier. The
Ulix Multi EL34 monoblock sells for only 960, delivers 100W and yet its footprint is
only 7" x 7" and 15 3/4" high.
Bewiths Monitor H-1 (above
right) threw me at first, because 21,500-31,000 per pair for a small
Japanese-made minimonitor seems like a lot of money. Then it was explained that the sleek,
front-ported enclosure is made of cast aluminum, which went some way toward explaining the
cost. Finish and attention to detail were impeccable. |
