The Luxman
PD-171 is a thoroughly modern turntable that just happens to resemble one of any number of
Japanese-made direct-drive turntables from the days of yore. It's a belt-drive design,
however, that uses a robust power supply identical to one used for a Luxman amp. It
features an LED lamp -- it's the long post on the left -- and a strobe mechanism that's
novel, as it's machined into the underside of the platter. The PD-171 weighs 50
pounds -- much more than so many Yamaha or Kenwood lookalikes -- and costs $6400, tonearm
included. |
