The Wadia 971 ($17,950) is a new-generation
CD transport and the mate to the company's top-of-the-line Series 9 digital-to-analog
converter. It holds digital data in a real-time memory buffer, where error correction, if
needed, is applied, before sending them to the unit's digital outputs, which include ST
optical, the format Wadia pioneered. The 971 uses a Stream Unlimited CD transport, which
is controlled by a proprietary servo board. "It has everything we know put into
it," according to Wadia's John Schaffer. |
