A New Powered Subwoofer from
Wilson Audio
by The Audio Beat | March 7, 2022
hile the new LoKe powered subwoofer ($8750 in standard
finishes) seems to be the natural mate for Wilson Audio's TuneTot minimonitors -- both
products are the company's smallest and least expensive -- it will also find great utility
with Wilson's compact floorstanding speakers like the SabrinaX, Yvette and even the Sasha
DAW. The LoKe features a 10" front-firing driver with 7/8" surround mated to a
500-watt class-D amplifier. The LoKe's rear panel features both balanced and unbalanced
inputs and outputs, and it replicates the most-used features of Wilson's ActivXO
crossover/controller. Of special interest is the LoKe's onboard parametric EQ, which
allows additional tailoring to the main speakers and the room. A useful feature is the
LoKe's auto on/off circuit.
The cabinet of a subwoofer goes a long way toward
defining the sub's performance, and, in true Wilson fashion, the LoKe's cabinet is
anything but perfunctory. It is a strategic combination of Wilson's harder-than-steel
X-Material, with HDF for internal bracing, creating, in the company's words, a
"support structure ensuring a solid foundation for the woofer coupling." Complex
formulas were used to create the LoKe's wide port "to match the carefully selected
driver optimized for Wilsons demanding LF application." While the LoKe is
Wilson Audio's smallest subwoofer to date, its size (20 3/4"H x 13 7/8"W x 21
3/4"D) and weight (110 pounds) imply room-filling bass frequencies, no matter the
room's dimensions.
Optional finishes increase the price of the LoKe, from
$9250 for an upgrade finish to $9750 for a custom and $10,750 for a premium finish. |
