Omega: Shunyata Research's New Top of the Line
fter three years of prototyping and testing, Shunyata Research's new Omega audio cables have become the company's new reference series, "no product," according to Shunyata, "[receiving] more attention to detail in the process of development." Omega XLR and RCA interconnects, phono cables and speaker cables join the company's Omega power cords and digital cables to complete Shunyata's best-of-the-best line. All are available in both black and silver finishes. The Omega interconnects ($9500 per meter pair, XLR or RCA) combine the purest form of single-crystal OCC silver wire extruded in Shunyatas VTXTM (virtual-tube) geometry. Shunyata then adds a "vastly improved" version of the patented circuit, which measurably improves square-wave response. Each interconnect features Shunyata's Transverse Axial Polarizer (TAP), which reduces EM-field distortion. Finally, the Omega interconnects are treated with Shunyatas proprietary Kinetic Phase Inversion Process (KPIP), significantly reducing burn-in time. The Omega phono cables ($10,500 per meter set) benefit from the same materials and processes as the interconnects. Omega speaker cables ($24,995 per eight-foot pair) feature 4AWG inner and center conductors made of pure silver and an outer concentric ring conductor made of pure copper. It features a more advanced version of the circuit to augment the Omega speaker cables HARP, which reduces energy that can audibly smear transient response and obscure low-level detail, and TAP technologies. The speaker cable's most outward feature is the integral Mobius system, which uses five polymer bands that sandwich the cable on all sides, dissipating vibrational energy that travels along the surface of the cable and through the floor. |
