New Reference Power Cords from Shunyata Research

by The Audio Beat | September 9, 2024

ccording to Shunyata Research, the company's new ALPHA-X (shown right) and SIGMA-X "reference" power cords represent "the most radical progression in power cord design" since the company was founded in 1998. Specific technologies employed are TAPc (Transverse Axial Polarizer), a patent-pending technology that, for the first time, Shunyata Research has applied to power cords; NR (third-generation Noise Reduction Circuit), a power-line noise-reduction technology with applications in professional recording studios and heart-surgery labs; and KPIP v2 (Kinetic Phase Inversion Process), an update to Shunyata Research’s proprietary KPIP process that permanently preconditions cables and power distributors, and further shortens the break-in cycle.

The prices for the new power cords are:

  • Sigma X NR (for amps, sources and line-level applications), $4000

  • Sigma X XC (for power distributor/wall connection), $4000

  • Sigma X QR (best performance for higher-end sources/amps), $6500

  • Alpha X NR (for amps, sources and line-level applications), $2850

  • Alpha X XC (for power distributor/wall connection), $2850

About these new power cords, Shunyata says, "No competitive products within any price range contain the ALPHA-X and SIGMA-X level of material customization and impact on noise."
