New from Göbel: The Divin Marquis
öbel High End has received plenty of praise for its large, high-efficiency Divin-series speakers, which include the flagship Divin Majestic and the smaller, somewhat more affordable and slightly more manageable Divin Noblesse. Now we have the new Divin Marquis ($80,000 per pair), the next model down and, stylistically at least, something of a departure. With a conventional three-way driver lineup, the Divin Marquis has reduced its overall size and cost by losing the top half of the symmetrical array. That makes for a speaker that is, at 39 tall and a mere 150 kilos/330 pounds each, considerably more manageable, easier to accommodate and a lot easier to afford. At first glance, the Divin Marquis looks like half of a Divin Noblesse, partly because it shares that speakers proprietary 12, 8 and Heil AMT driver lineup, and partly because it sports the family facets and the four symmetrical ports around the bass unit. The cabinet may not exhibit the extreme rear cutaway of its bigger brother's, but it does share the sumptuous, genuine piano lacquer (black or white) of its more expensive brethren, this time with the extra-cost option of gold leaf on the driver surrounds. The end result is powerfully squat and purposeful and, with extension to 21Hz and 92dB sensitivity, we suspect its also pretty potent. |
