An Anniversary Tribute From Genesis Advanced Technologies
enesis celebrates its 30th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Genesis Advanced Technologies with the debut of the new Tribute loudspeakers (starting at $120,000 per pair), which pay homage to the technologies invented by Genesis founder Arnie Nudell and improved upon by Genesis Advanced Technologies designer Gary Leonard Koh. These include the original Infinity IRS's wide "wings," servo-controlled woofer, dipole line-source design, planar-magnetic midrange and tweeter, and crossover that is "as simple as possible." According to Genesis, the Tribute also "showcases the advanced technologies of modern materials . . . and twenty years of evolution and improvements." Gary Koh redesigned the servo-control circuitry in 2005 "to react faster and using less feedback to get a more natural and musical result." He launched the Genesis ring-radiator ribbon tweeter in 2013, which improves the dispersion of the original Genesis round tweeter. In 2016, Koh redeveloped the Genesis midrange ribbon, using modern films and materials to reduce distortion and improve power handling. Finally, Kohs crossover designs are even easier to drive and more coherent across the frequency spectrum. The Tribute uses 15 Genesis 1" ring-radiator ribbon tweeters (a dozen firing to the front and three to the rear), a 48" ribbon midrange, a 12" ribbed aluminum-cone woofer and a 500-watt servo-controlled bass amplifier. The Tribute measures 75"H x 38"W x 18"D and weighs 255 pounds. There are controls for the front tweeters (+/-3dB), rear tweeters (+/-3dB), bass gain and low-pass frequency. The Tribute's frequency response is 22Hz-40kHz (+/-3dB), its sensitivity is 90dB/W/m, and its nominal impedance is 4 ohms. The Genesis Tribute will have its sonic debut at the Capital Audiofest in Rockville, Maryland, November 11-13. |
