P1 "as good as it gets"?

Marc,
There
is a new CH Precision P1 phono stage for sale online. Is this as
good as it gets for phono preamps? Would it work with any system, like going into a tubed
pre amp or my solid-state Ayre amp? How about with a Grand Prix Audio Parabolica
turntable? Should I consider it as a one-time bargain? All these super components are
difficult to find used. I cannot spend this amount unless it's a game-changer and an offer
I shouldn't refuse.

The
P1 was one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever heard, but it's not cheap, so you may
find that spending your money in a different way (upgrading to the GPA Monaco or a better
cartridge, for instance) may lead to better overall sound from your system. The P1 also
sounds its best with an add-on power supply, and that's another expensive component. I
don't like spending other people's money, especially when they are asking me about very
expensive products they haven't heard. That said, I thought the P1 was one of the greats.
