Where to buy vinyl online?

July 10, 2024

Hi Marc,

What online sites would you recommend for buying vinyl? Many thanks.

Sheldon Simon

I buy LPs from various sources, including the big three: Music Direct, Acoustic Sounds and Elusive Disc. They are all easy to recommend, especially when they run sales, usually around holidays. Sometimes their discounts also apply to accessories and even audio components.

I also buy quite a bit of music, analog and digital, from Zia Records, a small chain with stores in Phoenix, Tucson and Las Vegas that also sells online. Zia's website is easy to use for searches (search on UPC codes if you're looking for specific versions of specific albums). Zia's participates in Record Store Day, so after the event, they sell the leftovers online. They also have a loyalty program that allows you to buy music at half price, once you've accumulated enough points. In this same vein, I like Bull Moose and Silver Platters, whose websites are a lot like Zia's. All three offer free shipping for orders over a certain dollar amount.

I have also bought vinyl on eBay and Discogs, but I don't usually shop online for used vinyl. I like to see a used record before I buy it, so my online purchases of used vinyl are few and far between. -Marc Mickelson
