SHM-SACDs "a big step up or not worth the extra expense?"

Marc,
I
was wondering how good the SHM-SACDs are. I have a collection of beautiful ECM mini-LP
Japanese gold discs of some of my favorite jazz artists, namely Jarrett, Corea and
Metheny. I was considering getting a few of my absolute faves in the SHM-SACD format. Will
they be a big step up or not worth the extra expense?

I
have a few dozen SHM-SACDs, most purchased from one seller who, I think, was ripping them.
This negates the advantage of the SHM -- Super High Material -- substrate for the discs. I
have to say that the ones I have sound terrific, including compared to other SACDs of the
same titles. The real question is whether the price of SHM-SACDs and the fact that they
are single-layer discs matter to you. I am skeptical as to whether SHM-SACDs, which are
made in Japan, are created with actual master tapes or via some kind of digital
remanipulation. However, I cannot deny that the discs I own "sound terrific."
