Avantgarde Acoustic was making beautiful music in its spacious room, and one could be forgiven for getting lost in the sound of its horns. The sound was far better than in years past.

However, around the corner, Avantgarde was showing its new Colibri “entry-level” system that quickly became the focus of attention. The prices are dependent on finish, but the basic unit will start around $6000-$7000 per pair. This consists of a full-range 350mm (about 1.15 feet) spherical horn behind which bass blades are tucked into a rectangular package set in a frame, allowing upright . . .

. . . or sideways orientation.

An optional bass unit ($4000 or so, depending on finish) can be added.
