High End 2019 Hot Product

Audio Researchs Dave Gordon was on hand to explain
the new Reference 160S stereo amplifier ($20,000), which made in Munich its first
appearance outside the factory. Marked proto in the space set aside for a
serial number, the gorgeous new amplifier was being shown with its cage removed to better
display its tube complement and inner transformer cage.

Obviously based on last years Ref 160M mono amps,
the new stereo amplifier has dual transparent power meters. With a depth of 21.5 and
a weight of 100 pounds, the amplifier is longer and heavier than the Reference 150SE and
has rear handles to improve maneuverability. The new amplifier is a complete reworking of
the Reference 150SE and its four-layer circuit boards allow for shorter circuit paths.
Responding to public demand, the unit adds single-ended inputs to the back panel. The
140Wpc amp will begin shipping in third quarter of this year. |
