The Kanto Tuk ($799 per pair) is a new kind of audiophile minimonitor -- one that attempts to do it all without need for an external power amplifier and digital processor. It combines an AMT air-motion tweeter and a 5 1/4" aluminum woofer with 65 watts of onboard power and digital signal processing. It also offers Bluetooth 4.2 wireless connectivity and a headphone output.

Rear connectivity for digital and analog sources is abundant. Included are both USB and TosLink digital inputs, and a phono input for direct connection of a turntable. There is also a subwoofer output. The Tuk even includes a lug for grounding a turntable.

There's also a full-function remote control that includes tone controls and an input toggle.

Best and most important of all, the Tuk's sound was impressive, combining smooth, refined treble with surprisingly deep, weighty bass. The soundstage bigger than expected and effortlessly detailed -- just what audiophiles crave. We've already put in our request for a review pair.
